Midorikawa‘s as likely a brand as any to wade into the realm of controversial footwear. The young Japanese brand, whose eponymous founder is up for the LVMH Prize and related to New York creative Shin Murayama, possesses a unique vision of menswear that undercuts gender norms and repurposes previously “unfashionable” apparel design, though some could argue perhaps quite convincingly that its forthcoming Suicoke collaboration is one toe over the line of good taste.
In some –frankly close-minded circles, men simply wearing sandals is a line too far. In most circles, Vibram’s FiveFingers shoes are simply untenable. Somehow, Midorikawa and Suicoke have combined both in an undeniably divisive footwear package that yields the look of actual bare feet, complete with the usual separated toes and the horror! toenails.

With trail season now fully upon us, running sneaker aficionados New Balance has dropped its v6 take on the Fresh Foam Hierro, a sneaker designed for clocking miles on rugged and uneven terrain.
Dressed in a vibrant red colorway dubbed “Ghost Pepper/Habanero” the Fresh Foam Hierro v6 features a lightweight midsole that provides a soft on-foot landing, while the Vibram outsole delivers ultimate traction and durability.
The upper boasts TPU threads to enhance the sneaker’s structure and protect the toes, with laser perforations giving it ultimate breathability and ventilation for those long summer jaunts.
Compared to its Heirro v5 predecessor, the v6 is a touch lighter without compromising protection. Finished with a classic lace closure and a yellow “N” logo on the sneaker’s side wall, New Balance’s latest Fresh Foam Hierro v6 is available to buy now from the brand’s online webstore, retailing at £125 (approximately $175 USD).

With a seperate piece for every toe and a build that looks like a no-show sock with a sole, Vibram‘s infamous FiveFingers is an undeniably unique piece of footwear. Now, after serving as the centerpiece of a wild Balenciaga collaboration it’s returned in an ecologically conscious “KSO Eco” makeup. The “KSO Eco” debuted in limited quantities during December 2020, and was crafted around an ethos of minimizing its environmental impact while still providing the same level of performance as the original FiveFingers.
Uppers are constructed of sustainable hemp, a soft-yet-durable form-fitting material that wraps around the wearer’s foot and toes. Dark heather gray is the primary color used, though the collar, eyestays and heel each feature a medium gray overlay. A simple toggle lacing system provides enhanced fit as well.
