Helping New Bedford Veterans During COVID-19 [OPINION]
Since the founding of our republic, our veteran communities have endured and continue to endure innumerable crises of physical and mental health, as well as housing and economic insecurity. And like other vulnerable populations, their crises are amplified by the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Luckily for veterans on the SouthCoast, there are organizations like the Veterans Transition House in New Bedford that have done their best to adapt their services with the social distancing strictures needed to also keep the pandemic at bay.
Recently, I was joined on my program by Jim Reid, Executive Director of the Veterans Transition House. The VTH was founded by a group of veterans in 1990 to “provide hope for homeless veterans in a safe, supportive residence, and to assist those who desire to achieve rehabilitation into the community.”
