shooter often takes cues from events whether or not he finds that information online or elsewhere, but it is something that seems to perpetuate itself, and what do the social media companies say to itself? this is scrutiny, they have been under for years now, and all of them in some form, meta, facebook, snapchat, and others, they have invested in technology to remove the extremist posts, and this is a lot of content here. snapchat in particular said that in regards to this case, we deliberately designed snapchat from different social media platforms, and we do not vet some content, and allow it to be algorithmically vetted, we instead, do vet it. so did this become vetted until
he said they lacked fidelity to the strict obligations of law enforcement. they basically took information that was politically motivated from obviously politically motivated sources. it s clear he s talking about the clinton campaign, that they didn t vet it, they didn t corroborate it. they went to the fisa court and swore to it under oath. even after it emerged over time that the information that they had presented to the court was not accurate, they not only didn t go back to the court and correct it, they doubled down and continued to get new surveillance warrants. martha: so you re saying it adds up to the reporting that we ve had over the last several years and you have reported on and talked about throughout the course of this. it took years to get this report, really, andy. so that is one of the big questions. what took so long and what is the impact of this report. yeah, i ve suspected, martha,
personally. he s privy to more information than i am. we saw a couple of hints that the government in some cases was requesting access for things like direct messages, and there may have been some specific government agencies that had heightened access to personal data as opposed to others. we didn t have any direct evidence of that. once you get into machine learning, a.i., the growing interrelationship of government and these tech platforms, i think you re going to find there s not a lot that is private anymore. as a journalist, it becomes scary on that level as well, right? how do you know that you can trust that someone is a real source and not a bot or something that has been fed to you that even when you vet it, it appears to be real? that s a concern, certainly. another major concern is how do
trumpland and what is the meaningful impact on that in terms of this investigation. yeah, i meanof first thing, donald trump had a rally against the fact that he no longer controls the justice department and these are no longer his appointees anymore and normal investigative step, the kind of steps a prosecution takes when presented with a claimut when ty are investigating somebody, they want to make sure it was true, they would try to vet it, that s not unusual. itth seems unusual, because of e way that trump had been, treat in the past, or because of the perception of his power, or his visibility, and what is truly unusual, that all of these things are happening, these questions are being asked, ofng former president. yes. i mean i think there is a sim question, of why trump took them, right? i mean we don t know why he won t give them back. we re not exactly sure why he took them in the first place, but maggie haberman, your colleague at the new york times had an interesting,m
there aren t criminal charges but every american can see what the democrats tried to do here. and let s make sure that doesn t happen again. even if twitter and facebook are complicit in some way or any other messaging platform. we can t let candidates lie to us at this level because it about tore our country apart. kayleigh: and that s it, you know, there s a question what did hillary clinton and the campaign know about sussman who misrepresented himself to the f.b.i. harris, here s my problem ethically here. you had robby mook who said we don t have expertise to judge what we were briefed on but decided to give it to a reporter so the reporter could run it down more. it s their decision whether to publish it. they want the reporter to vet it except wait, here s the tweet. hillary clinton leans into it at the same time. computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the trump organization and a russian bank. so you want the reporter to vet it but on the other
