Case involving 10 suspects arrested for deadly Phoenix unrest postponed

On Monday, 5 April 2021 at 11:00, police officers from Tongaat SAPS arrested a 34-year-old man for possession of drugs and bribery.
The police officers were conducting patrols at the Tongaat taxi rank when they noticed a man behaving suspiciously. When the police approached him, he panicked and proceeded to walk away. The police officers hastily stopped the man and upon searching him, they found a packet that contained 49 blue and white capsules suspected to be heroin. The police then proceeded to the suspect’s house at Siterams in Emona.
They searched the suspect’s house and further discovered 334 blue and white capsules of heroin, 40 pieces of a solid white substance suspected to be rock cocaine and 90 glass pipes used to smoke rock cocaine. The suspect offered the police officers R1000-00 in exchange for his freedom, but the police officers stood their ground. They seized the cash and further charged him for bribery.
Police officers together with other law enfocement agencies conducted patrols near the Tongaat Railway Station when they noticed a man carrying a heavy back pack walking towards a scrap metal dealer.
The said suspect was stopped and upon searching his bag, police found copper cables stashed inside the back pack. The 52-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession of stolen property. The suspect is appearing before the Verulam Magistrates Court today.
