We met six-year-old Wanga and her dad, Takalani, in February this year. She desperately needed surgery to mend a hole in her heart. Wanga is one of the estimated 11,000 children born with a heart defect in South Africa every year. She was diagnosed with a PDA - or a hole in the heart - a birth defect that can be mended through early detection and surgery.
Today, Wanga and two more state heart patients will receive their life-changing heart procedures as part of a special project to mark the end of Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Week.
Abbygayle is a happy, hard-working girl who has been a dancer for most of her young life - spending up to 10 hours a day dancing. However, this all changed a year and a half ago when she was diagnosed with scoliosis.
