A Tale of Two Students: Yakima area students find a home away from home

By Veronica Craker, Marketing & Communications About two and a half hours east of Tacoma sits the farming community of Yakima, Washington. The Central Washington county has about 243,000 residents and is probably most notable for producing the majority of the nation’s apples and hops. But it’s also where Henry Temple ‘21 and Isabel Gutierrez ‘23 call home. The two didn’t know each other growing up, and their paths have yet to cross, but coincidentally, they’ve both found themselves called to PLU. “I wanted to stay close-ish to home while still getting an experience of what it’s like to live in a different place,” Temple said of his decision to attend PLU.

Act Six Program Empowers Future Leaders | The Suburban Times

By Veronica Craker, Marketing & Communications Georjina Soliai ‘23 of Lakewood, Washington grew up less than a 15-minute drive from Pacific Lutheran University. The Clover Park High School graduate was always aware of the university, but she never really considered it an option for herself. Soliai’s family moved to the United States in 1998 from Samoa. Her parents instilled in her and her siblings a hard work ethic, so she always knew she would go to college. Many of Soliai’s teachers at Clover Park were PLU alums and often talked to her about the school. At the same time, Soliai was growing interested in pursuing a social work degree so she could be a mentor to kids in her hometown.

By Veronica Craker, Marketing & Communications The PLU School of Business’s MBA program has been named one of the nation’s most outstanding business schools, by The Princeton Review®. The education services company chose the school for its list “Best Business Schools for 2021”. The PLU MBA program is founded on the cornerstones of leadership, creative innovation, global awareness and ethical responsibility. It is designed for both business and non-business majors. The program offers a small class size and can be completed in as little as nine months. “We recommend PLU as an excellent choice for an aspiring MBA,” said Rob Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor-in-chief. “What makes our Best Business Schools list unique is that we factor in data from our surveys of students attending the schools about their campus and classroom experiences. For our 2021 list we tallied surveys of more than 17,800 students at 244 business schools.”
