Dozens of new votes added after election recount in N.J. town, but results stay the same

Court-ordered recounts in two Gloucester County municipal elections produced the same outcomes, officials reported, though one of those races saw dozens of additional votes added to the final tally.
Republicans were granted hand recounts in races for seats on the Harrison and Woolwich township committees after Democrats pulled off narrow victories in the November General Election.
In the Woolwich Township contest for two open seats, Republican Jonathan Fein trailed the second-place finisher, Democratic incumbent Vernon R. Marino, by 83 votes, with machine count vote totals of 3,714 to 3,631.

Recount ordered in 2 N.J. towns, but not freeholder race, after audit catches missed votes

A judge has denied a bid for a countywide recount of votes cast in the Gloucester County freeholder race, but has granted recounts in two close municipal races.
County Republicans sought a recount in the freeholder race, which saw three incumbent Democrats re-elected. The highest Republican finisher, Nick DeSilvio, trailed the Democrat with the least votes by 1,944 votes.
DeSilvio sought a hand recount of all 175,000 ballots cast in the race, claiming the potential for errors in the largely vote-by-mail General Election.
In arguments presented Friday before Superior Court Assignment Judge Benjamin C. Telsey, attorney Christopher Dasti, representing the Republicans, cited claims that some ballots became jammed in counting equipment and may not have been counted, and highlighted discrepancies found during last week’s audit of a random sample of votes cast.
