Regardless of how you describe them, zebra mussels, an invasive aquatic species commonly spotted on boats, decks and pipes, have made their way into local and national aquarium tanks.
Moss balls, an aquarium plant sold at department stores in Vermont and across the country, may contain zebra mussels, according to the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources on Thursday.
The agency was alerted the week prior that plants sold under the name Beta Buddy Marimo Balls, Mini Marimo Moss Balls, and Marimo Moss Ball Plant may contain the invasive mollusk species within the plant or its packaging.
