A suspect was arrested in Franschhoek on Sunday night (24 January) at 23:00 after he allegedly broke into a guesthouse in town.
“One of our armed response officers was patrolling his area on Sunday night when he was flagged down by a member of the police, who asked for his assistance in responding to an alarm activation they were investigating at a guesthouse close by,” Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT, related.
“Our officer informed the Monitoring Centre, and joined the police in attending to the alarm activation scene.”
Hulme said when the police and the armed response officer arrived at the address they moved around the premises and noticed a broken window. A short while later they located the alleged suspect and took him into custody.

Police have arrested three suspects after they were involved in a high-speed chase in central Stellenbosch this weekend.
According to Nathalie Martin, Stellenbosch police spokesperson, a man was withdrawing money at the Absa ATM at BP in Merriman Street when the three suspects approached him and instructed him to input his pin number.
“At first he refused, but then did as the suspects instructed when all three where standing around him,” she said.
“The suspects then ran away and the complainant saw that money had been withdrawn from his account. The suspects fled in a Grey Kia and collided with a white Volkswagen Caravelle at the traffic lights at Bird Street and Adam Tas Road. The driver of the Kia was driving at high speed and did not stop at the lights.”
