Since she was 5 years old, Corren Watson of New Berlin tagged along with her older brother, Kallen, first to his Cub Scout meetings and then to his Boy Scout meetings.
Even though she had begun on her own path by joining the Girl Scouts as a Daisy in kindergarten, Corren Watson still hoped membership for girls in the Boy Scouts would become a reality. It was really more of a hope because for so long the country was kind of against letting girls in, so I didn t figure it would actually happen, but I still wanted to be able to be a part of it somehow, some way, said Watson, a 15-year-old sophomore at New Berlin High School. People around me sometimes were thinking, girls already have this program over here. Why do they need this program over here, too?
The annual Toys for Tots, Food for Families Christmas give-away in Prowers County had to undergo some changes for the pandemic this year. Organizer, Darlene Lopez said gifts and a hot meal will be distributed on Thursday, December 24
th in this manner:
at 500 West Beech Street
Holly residents may pick up their gifts and dinner between 9am and 10am on the 24
th at the Holly Pride Center at 201 South Main Street.
Granada residents may pick up their gifts and meal, also between 9 and 10am at the Granada Fire Department.
Lamar residents may pick up their gifts and meal at the Toys for Tots headquarters at 500 West Beech Street between 9am and 1pm on December 24

Wellesley Food Pantry s (WFP) largest intake event each year is the Scouting for Food Drive in early November. Given the current public health concerns, WFP could not hold such a large event requiring almost 200 volunteers to process all donations. Instead WFP will benefit this year from a series of “mini-drives” where scouts will target certain areas of town each month to supply WFP with needed inventory well into 2021.
Different troops across town Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Venture Crew will take turns identifying neighborhoods where they will collect. The scouts will distribute flyers with specific items requested for donation please provide only these items as WFP will identify what is needed and does not have extra storage space available for items less in demand. Scouts will return to these residences on the designated Saturday and collect the donations. Items should be place outside for pick-up by 9 a.m.
