Ventura County Animal Services receives grant investment
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - Ventura County Animal Services has received a $27,500 grant investment from Petco Love, a national nonprofit.
As a result of this grant award, Ventura County Animal Services will be able to fund a pilot program that will provide services to pets who have treatable, non-life-threatening medical conditions.
Director of Ventura County Animal Services Jackie Rose said she is honored and thrilled to receive the grant. These funds will enhance our Pet Retention Program, allowing us to help even more people keep their pets and avoid the need for them to surrender, Rose said. Petco Love initially funded our Pet Retention program with a generous grant in 2016 and we are excited that they, again, have shown their firm support for our lifesaving mission!”
Injured red-tailed hawk rescued from Highway 101 in Oxnard
OXNARD, Calif. - A red-tailed hawk that was hit by a car was rescued by Ventura County Animal Services and taken to a rehabilitation center.
It happened on Jan. 21 on Highway 101 between the Vineyard and Rose avenues. Ventura County Animal Services posted video of the rescue on Instagram.
The video shows Animal Control Officer Eric Lozano chasing down the hawk along the center divider on the northbound side of Highway 101. Lozano corners the bird with his net and brings the animal to safety.
VCAS said the hawk was hit by a car and animal rescuers needed an assist from the California Highway Patrol to stop traffic on the freeway.
