The island looks moderately different now, with a wider beachhead and fewer trees.
“We still have a little more work to do on the island we’re going to be planting some native vegetation on the island but at this point we don’t have any equipment on the island,” McBride said.
Along with the sand, the WCIND also added 6 tons of rock, to extend the rock revetments.
In addition to being popular with boaters, Snake Island shields the Intracoastal Waterway from sand brought in by the tides of Venice Inlet.
McBride said the project came in within its anticipated budget.
