us. a current and former u.s. official are telling me and my colleague elise labbott that u.s. officials met secretly with venezuelan military officers to discuss a possible coup against venezuelan president maduro. meeting with these military officers in several overt meetings over the last year, and these meetings happened abroad. washington ultimately decided against supporting this coup against the venezuelan president. we know this white house has sent a very firm stance against venezuela. they ve issued numerous sanctions. we know the president has said in the past that he is still considering a military option. he has kept open that possibility. we also reported earlier this summer that the president had previously talked to aides about the possibility of invading venezue venezuela. we also now know this coup that
attacked churches and kidnapping people and the like. that opportunity is now gone for ortega. this is an old man, a dying man in ortega, his wife is crazy, a luna tick and vice president of the country. my biggest fear, unlike ven w venezue venezuela, the possibility of a civil war in nicaragua is real. would trigger a mig ra tri process and undermine anti-drug efforts and there is a direct effort for the united states in seeing democracy and stability in nicaragua. one last question, the former president attorney michael cohen under criminal investigation and revealed on friday the fbi obtained tapes including cohen s private conversations with president trump, speculation that the u.s. attorney s office in the southern district of new york is looking at the tapes to see whether or not president trump himself did anything illegal or worth investigating. are you concerned at all what might be on these tapes? haven t heard them. i can t make an opinion on tapes i ve never heard. we l
