Futsal is one of the disciplines in which Spain has had greatest success over the years. However, maintaining that dominant position in the game is getting harder all the time. While the national team continue to grace the latter stages of major tournaments, they had to settle for runners-up spot at the last UEFA Futsal EURO and a quarter-final place at the last FIFA Futsal World Cup™. The expansion of futsal has been levelling the playing field with each passing year, says the Spain coach, who in the space of just four months will contest a World Cup and EURO with the country’s usual ambition but with considerable uncertainty around preparations, given the COVID pandemic.
