Big Third Quarter Lifts Velva Past Carrington 65-49

Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -Carrington held a 25-23 lead at halftime against the Velva Aggies, despite committing 10 turnovers and going 4 of 10 from the free throw line. Velva would make those chances hurt in the third quarter outscoring the Cardinals 24-13 and went on to defeat the Cards 65-49. Adam Schepp (6’2 senior) scored a game high 26 points to pace the Aggies victory. Gage Florence added 10 points for Velva. Carrington was paced by Hudson Schmitz (6′ sophomore) paced the Cardinals with 19 points and Hudson Topp (5’11 sophomore) added 8 points. Velva improved to 7-4 overall and Carrington dropped to 5-7. The Cardinals will host Ellendale on Saturday night in a District 5 matchup starting at 7:00 with a pregame starting at 6:45 on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com

Cardinals Use Big Fourth To Down Aggies

VELVA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Carrington Cardinals ranked ninth in the Class B girls’ basketball polls that came out on Monday, and they lived up to that billing by beating the Velva Aggies 56-43 Tuesday afternoon.  Senior Hannah Hagel led all scorers with 18 points for the Cardinals, and junior Sydnie Grager chipped in 14 of her own while supplying defense and rebounding in the middle of the floor. Carrington led 15-7 after the first quarter, with Hagel and Grager combining for nine points.  The Aggies turned things around in the second quarter by outscoring the Cardinals 14-6 to take the game into the half tied at 21.  Senior Jade Lohnes hit three three-pointers in the quarter for the Aggies who used the three-point shot to stay in the game.
