look at everything. we look at the vehicle factors, we look at the roadway, we look at survival factors. we look at the condition of the drivers, the licensing of the drivers. we look at the operator itself, the company. we look at everything. the accident happened in schoharie, new york, 170 miles north of new york city. the limo was traveling down a hill on route 30 when it sped past a stop sign at an intersection into a parking lot. the limo hit an empty s.u.v. and killed two pedestrians before it crashed into a ditch. the crash happening just outside the apple barrel country store. witnesses report hearing a loud explosion, screaming as first responders tried to break windows and save lives, jon. jon: we re starting to learn more about the victims this morning, brian. friends and family of the victims say they were all celebrating a birthday party, including newlywed couple. jamie douglas lost four nieces
including highway crash reconstruction, survival factors, vehicle factors, including the mechanical condition of the limo. any roadway factors and the emergency response. also accompanying the team are members from the ntsb s office of transportation disaster assistance helping to coordinate the response for the families of those involved in this tragedy. the ntsb is working with the new york state police as they conduct their investigation. we are conducting our separate investigation and we will be working together. throughout the next few days, the ntsb investigators will work on scene to thoroughly document the scene. and to gather what we call the
lot and struck a 2015 toyota highlander that was unoccupied and parked. two pedestrians standing nearby were also struck and killed. 20 fatalities is just horrific. i ve been on the board for 12 years and this is one of the biggest losses of life loss of lives we have seen in a long, long time. this is the most deadly transportation accident in this country since february of 2009. cnn correspondent christine analessi joining me now. the ntsb on the scene there, collecting evidence. still unclear the expense of events. what led up to this. but we know in all 20 people dead. that s right. the investigators are going to be looking at vehicle factors including mechanical issues as well as the driver issues and
