Meat grown from animal cells in laboratories has not been authorised for sale in the European Union as of February 2024, contrary to social media posts that misleadingly claimed an Israeli food company was supplying it to German restaurants. The named company has said, however, that its products are exclusively plant-based and do not contain meat. The EU's food safety watchdog said it had not yet received any applications for cultivated meat products.
