C elegans MAPS the Way: the 2022 C elegans Meeting on Metabolism, Aging, Pathogenesis, and Stress (MAPS)

The Metabolism, Aging, Pathogenesis and Stress in C. elegans (MAPS) conference takes place at the University of Wisconsin, Madison July 14-17, 2022. This biyearly meeting gathers researchers who use C. elegans to answer fundamental questions in physiology. C. elegans are simple animals used to advance many areas of research. The advantage of C. elegans as a model lies in both its simplicity and its complexity. While its small size, rapid development and reproduction and ease of manipulation enable analyses not feasible with more complex models, as an animal, its complexity, relative to cell-based assays, is invaluable in studying organismal phenotypes like aging and pathogenesis. This Research Topic aims to provide a collection of articles highlighting excellent research presented at this year’s MAPS conference. Participants of the conference are invited to submit original articles or reviews (including mini-reviews) that focus on the scientific topics of the conference: “Aging: fr

Mothers pass on the legacy of stress exposure to future generations

A mother's response to stress can even influence her grandchildren. Biologists at the University of Iowa found that roundworm mothers subjected to heat stress passed, under certain conditions and through modifications to their genes, the legacy of that stress exposure not only to their offspring but even to their offspring's children.
