Lahinch houses on hold over concerns about infrastructure

CLARE County Council has put plans for a large housing development in Lahinch on hold amid concerns about its impact on local infrastructure.
The local authority has sought further information from developer Victoria Cross Limited which applied for planning permission to Clare County Council to construct 28 new houses at Station Road, Lahinch.
The proposed development would consist of two two-storey dwelling houses, eight dormer dwelling houses and 17 single storey dwelling houses
In its request for further information, the local planning authority has requested the company to submit a detailed hydrological assessment of the catchment area by a suitably qualified hydrologist.

Hoteliers in Clare insist many businesses won’t survive beyond this year, if the Government doesn’t introduce long term supports for the sector.
It comes as new figures from the Irish Hotels Federation show bookings for the summer season remain low, amid ongoing uncertainty around when level five restrictions will be lifted.

Staycation bookings soar amid hopes for domestic travel

There are indications that staycation holidays will be a big feature of the summer once again this year.
Holiday rentals in coastal areas, particularly along the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast, are seeing a big increase in bookings already.
However the lack of international visitors could make this year far worse than 2020 for some hotel owners, who say they simply cannot sustain two years in a row of big losses.
Steven Thomas runs Lahinch Property Management for the past number of years, managing over 50 rental homes and apartments in the popular seaside town in north Co Clare.
