Spelling Bee champs visit with County Executive

Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise hosted a meet-and-greet Wednesday with the champion and junior champion of the 2021 Hudson County Spelling Bee, giving the two students the chance to meet each other in person after this year’s virtual contest.
The visit between the county’s top spellers and the county exec, an annual tradition, took place at DeGise’s office in the historic William J. Brennan Courthouse in Jersey City.

Two Jersey City students are being celebrated as top spellers this week after being named champion and junior champion of the 2021 Hudson County Spelling Bee.
Seventh-grader Mujtaba Raja of Academy I won the champion title after surviving two tie-breaker rounds in competition with students in Grades 6 through 8. And fifth-grader Vansh Sunil Patel of School 27, the Alfred Zampella School, competed against students in Grades 2 through 5 to win the junior champion title.
