Avery replaces former U.S. Attorney John H. Durham, who left office following the election of President Joseph P. Biden and U.S. Attorney Leonard C. Boyle, who the district court judges appoint to serve in the transition.
The committee sent Avery’s nomination to the floor on a voice vote after an endorsement by U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, a member of the committee, who recommended Avery to the White House along with fellow Connecticut Democrat Christopher Murphy. President Joseph P. Biden nominated in January.
