Vanderbilt Senior LHP Hugh “Big Fish” Fisher will be plying his trade in the minors, as he signed with the Diamondbacks earlier today. He was chosen in the 10th round, and signed for a slight underslot deal.
10th-rder Hugh Fisher signs w/@Dbacks for $100k (pick 288 value = $147,900). Vanderbilt LHP, just 55 IP in four years because of TJ & control issues, mid-90s fastball & low-80s slider w/tough angle as a reliever. @MLBDraft Jim Callis (@jimcallisMLB) July 20, 2021
Big Fish has Andrew Miller type arm talent, but Mitch Williams-esque control. If the DBags can get him to harness his all-world stuff, he’ll be a mainstay in their bullpen for years to come. Here’s hoping the Big Fish can thrive in the desert.
