Fire causes at least $100K damage to Vista house

Print A fire that started in a shed and spread to a Vista home late Sunday caused at least $100,000 in damage and left four adults displaced, a fire official said. The fire was reported shortly after 11:40 p.m. at the home, on Lazy Circle Drive in Vista. When firefighters arrived, they found fire burning the exterior wall with flames extending into the home’s attic. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Advertisement “It started in a shed,” Vista Fire Chief Ned Vander Pol said. “There were items that were being charged in there battery chargers. We don’t know if that was (the cause.) There was a refrigerator in there. A lot of possible causes.”

Second-alarm fire chars auto shops, prompts evacuations

VISTA    A second-alarm fire that charred several auto-repair shops burned for hours Sunday morning, sending acrid smoke into the air that prompted evacuations at a nearby apartment complex, Vista fire officials said. The blaze was first reported about 2 a.m. after someone said they saw a trash on fire in a business complex off North Santa Fe Avenue south of West Connecticut Avenue, said Vista Fire Chief Ned Vander Pol. When firefighters arrived, they saw the fire had spread to a nearby building and called for more support. It took about 3 1/2 hours to beat back the blaze, which seriously damaged three businesses: EMI Automotive, Humberto Palos Auto Repair and Mexicano Tires.
