Mandi, January 29
The unanimous declaration of the names for the posts of chairperson and vice-chairperson, Mandi Zila Parishad, has dealt a blow to Irrigation and Public Health (IPH) Minister Mahender Singh Thakur, whose daughter Vandana Gularia failed to grab the top post.
Vandana had won the election of member of the Zila Parishad from Grayoh ward in the Dharampur Assembly segment of the district.
BJP rebel Pal Verma was today elected as the chairperson while Mukesh Chandel, who was supported by the BJP, was named the vice-chairperson of the Zila Parishad. Verma had contested the poll from Bhadiyal ward in the Balh Assembly segment as an Independent candidate after the BJP named Anil Kumar as its candidate from there. Verma defeated Saini to win the election.
