July 20, 2021 - 3:08 PM B.C. saw one of its highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases in the past month with 76 recorded in the past 24 hours. That includes 37, almost half, in the Interior Health region alone, according to a Health Ministry news release today, July 20. There were 27 new cases in the Fraser Health region, nine in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, three in the Vancouver Island Health region and none in the Northern Health region. There are 692 active cases in B.C. with 207 in Interior Health. There are 50 people in hospital with 12 in intensive care. The province has now hit the 80 per cent vaccination rate for first doses to all those over the age of 12. Second doses have risen to 54.4 per cent of residents.

Another 45 cases of COVID-19 were detected in B.C. in the past 24 hours. Almost half, 19, were in the Interior Health region, according to a Health Ministry news release issued today, July 9. Another 14 case were in the Vancouver Coastal health region, eight in the Fraser Health region, four in the Vancouver Island Health Region and no new cases reported in the Northern Health region. There are currently 661 active cases in B.C., with 181 of those in the Interior Health region. There are 73 people in hospital in B.C. infected with the virus with 19 of those in intensive care. The vaccination rate for those 12 and older has risen to 78.6 per cent today from 78.4 per cent yesterday.

The school district saw eight schools with potential exposures within the last two weeks, according to Interior Health and the school district. Central Okanagan Public Schools issued press releases stating May 21, Interior Health confirmed exposures at Springvalley Elementary and Rutland Senior Secondary. On May 19, exposures were also confirmed at Pearson Road Elementary, Springvalley Elementary, Rutland Middle School and Rutland Senior Secondary. May 18 also saw COVID-19 exposures at George Elliot Secondary and RSS.

That’s up from 411 yesterday and the first time the number has been above 500 since May 13. The daily case counts in the Interior Heath region have fluctuated significantly over the past couple of weeks, with 62 recorded in the last 24 hours. Getting everyone in our province immunized is our pathway forward through the COVID-19 pandemic,” says a joint statement issued today, May 19, by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix. “This will ensure we have enough protection and community immunity to allow us to slowly lift public health and travel restrictions.”
