Letter: Turn your lights on, be seen By Dave Jackson, Vancouver

A simple thought that may help reduce our state’s very high traffic accident rate. Washington is in the top one-fourth of the states reporting last year. A major problem is dark-colored cars that blend with the background. Newer models with painted bumpers add to the visibility issue. All newer model cars have DRLs, “Daytime Running Lights,” but a large number of drivers turn off this safety feature.
I belong to Vancouver Bike Club and our club promotes road safety for bikes and drivers. I have noticed on my rides that about 40 percent of the new cars have the lights off even on wet days.
