Carlton Avery: Community activist to run for Montgomery City Council

View Comments Montgomery native, community activist and paralegal Carlton Avery announced Thursday that he plans to run for the vacant District 1 seat on the Montgomery City Council. The seat was left empty when longtime Councilman Richard Bollinger died in March after battling cancer. Voters will choose his successor July 13, with a runoff set for Aug. 24. District 1 includes a wide swath of the city stretching from central to east Montgomery. Avery is a lifelong Montgomery resident and graduate of Robert E. Lee High School who works with Vance Law Firm. He has served with nonprofit organizations, business and leadership groups through the years and organized neighborhood improvement efforts.

Alabama News Network s Magical Christmas Toy Drive Has Biggest Year Yet

Alabama News All of us at Alabama News Network want to thank everyone who donated to our 7th Annual Magical Christmas Toy Drive. Thanks to you, we had our biggest year yet. Toys are still being delivered to the Salvation Army, but it already appears that our toy drive collected at least $15,000 in toys for the Salvation Army of Montgomery. These toys have been combined with those from other toy drives and are being distributed to hundreds of families in our area. Our toy drive had several changes because of the pandemic. The toy vault was moved from our TV studios to Eastdale Mall, where our interviews were conducted.

7th Annual Magical Christmas Toy Drive Another Huge Success

Alabama News   All of us at Alabama News Network want to say thanks to all of you who made this year’s 7th annual Magical Christmas Toy Drive such a success. It will be next week before we know how many toys were collected, but the toy vault at Eastdale Mall was packed with donations. The toys will be given to the Salvation Army in Montgomery to hand out to families in need. Alabama News Network couldn’t have done it without the help of our sponsors: Jackson Hospital, The Vance Law Firm, Guardian Credit Union, Eastdale Mall and Brewbaker Motors. They each donated toys and put collection bins in their businesses.
