Supporters of the Kuemper Catholic School System gathered this (Saturday) evening for the 2021 Friends of Kuemper Ball, raising over $650,000 for the school. Following the entirely virtual event a year ago, community members were back at the Kuemper Field House for in-person festivities for “A Night to Unite,” the theme for this year’s ball. At the conclusion of the evening, the chair couples and their children announced a grand fundraising total of $651,312 plus money raised from the night’s auctions. The coveted vehicle raffle for a $20,000 voucher to Champion Ford, Macke Motors, Motor Inn, New Way Ford, Team Auto Group or Wittrock Motors was won by Matt and Kelly Wendl of Carroll, and the $10,000 ag raffle to Haley Equipment, Jet’s Outdoor Power, Reuter’s Equipment or Van Wall Equipment was claimed by Alvin Mueggenberg of Arcadia. Deimco Finishing Equipment (Tama, Iowa) has hired Shivtej Utekar and Ryan Hass and announced a 10,800-square-foot expansion to its facility.

Utekar obtained his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Wichita State University in May 2020. During his time at university, Shivtej excelled academically and completed an internship with Speed Automation. As automation engineer, Shivtej will be responsible for the design and implementation of custom controls for Deimco’s system solutions.

The proposed Salt Creek Wind Farm project in Tama County made significant steps toward becoming a reality recently.
The Tama County board of adjustment met at 9 a.m. on Dec. 9 in Toledo where they considered and ultimately voted on 60 conditional use permits submitted by Salt Creek Wind LLC.
The permits were seeking approval of 60 sites within a 25,000 acre footprint in central Tama County that will be used to construct wind turbines for the Salt Creek Wind Farm project.
After more than an hour of presentations from Salt Creek Wind representatives, the county board of adjustment ultimately voted 4-0 in favor of the 60 wind turbine sites.
