After DM168 spread the word about an app that allows healthcare workers to track, trace, follow up and monitor tuberculosis (TB) patients without having to go out into communities, the head of the Centre for Community Technologies at Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, Professor Darelle van Greunen, received some welcome news.
Van Greunen said the app that is being rolled out on a small scale in Wells Estate in Port Elizabeth will also be rolled out in the Western Cape as part of the South African National Tuberculosis Association (Santa). Members of Santa read about the app in DM168.

Nelson Mandela University (NMU) has appointed five new distinguished professors.
NMU spokesperson Zandile Mbabela said on Thursday the five Paul Watts, Darelle van Greunen, Ilse Truter, Andre Calitz and Janine Adams had consistently performed at a high level for at least five years to achieve the accolade.

When ESPACIO opened in Waikīkī in September 2019, it was lauded as the most indulgent luxe hotel on Oʻahu arguably the state. The hotel features just nine three-bedroom suites sprawling over 2,250 square feet each with ocean-view balconies equipped with Jacuzzis and personal butlers. Rooms start at $5,000 a night, which includes two 50-minute spa treatments and a private Japanese-French dinner by ESPACIO executive chef Jason Yamaguchi. In December the hotel was sold out.
