Apprehended murder suspect accused of shooting, hiding 31-year-old woman

A 32-year-old Van Buren Township man apprehended in Monroe County on Monday is accused of shooting a 31-year-old woman and then hiding her body in a storage unit in the City of Westland, according to a press release issued by the Van Buren Township Police Department.
On May 9 at around 4 p.m., Van Buren police received word that a potential homicide had occurred within the township. It was later determined that a suspect had shot a female in an apartment at the Westlake Apartments, but the female victim s identity was initially unknown and her body had reportedly been moved.
Deputies apprehend murder suspect
A murder suspect wanted in Van Buren Township has been apprehended by authorities in Monroe County, according to a press release issued by the Monroe County Sheriff s Office.
Sheriff s deputies along with troopers from the Michigan State Police Monroe Post reportedly received word late Sunday night that the suspect was possibly in the area of Colf Road in Exeter Township. Just after 12:30 a.m. Monday morning, Deputy Steven Schmidt located the suspect inside a vehicle on Martinsville Road in Exeter.
Schmidt and state troopers reportedly took the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect was turned over to members of the Van Buren Township Police Department.

ROMULUS, MI – A second suspect has been charged and arraigned in connection with the 2017 slaying of Egypt Covington.
Shane Lamar Evans, 31, of Sumpter Township, was arraigned Friday, Dec. 18, in 34th District Court in Romulus on one count each of felony murder and first-degree home invasion, according to the Michigan State Police.
