Thrilled to be getting more A boost in COVID vaccine supply for Michiana counties

An initially restricted supply of COVID-19 vaccines seems to be loosening for some area counties, as Indiana. Gov. Eric Holcomb recently announced the state would receive 13,000 more doses, raising its weekly federal allotment to 91,000. In St. Joseph County, the 7-day rolling average of new cases on Friday dropped to 81, the lowest level since Oct. 9. More good news followed: the county will begin receiving 1,000 more vaccine doses for at least the next four weeks, said county deputy health officer Dr. Mark Fox. That’s an increase from 1,500 to 2,500 per week, enabling the health department vaccine clinic to increase daily vaccinations from 300 to 500.

Letters: Indiana legislators are hypocrites on government intrusion in public health matters

Republican state Sen. Dennis Kruse is opposed to public health measures like requiring employees to get vaccines in the midst of the COVID pandemic. He wants to stop employers’ and government interference. “It’s my body,” he says. He doesn’t believe government should be in charge of health care. I entirely agree the government shouldn’t interfere with my body in situations that have no bearing on public health. How very hypocritical it is then that Kruse and other Indiana legislators, most of them Republican, oppose a woman’s right to make decisions about her body. In those cases, he believes it’s perfectly appropriate for the government to put stumbling blocks between a woman and her right to choose to terminate a pregnancy.
