art out of it. then it was hypo dated. young people you work with, if they re going to pay anything back, they ought to pay this person, that person. a veteran. do they have her talk about that? sure. like politics, that is personal. you look around and you see the people who had the biggest impact on your life and you ask the question, who was helping them? what can i do for them? but i think the larger issue is the value judgment. they are wondering, why did somebody somewhere decided that the cost of this diploma was more important than the cost of the tools that allow me to build the very office in which we are having the conversation. how and when did that happen? and who is talking on our behalf about maybe changing it?
or to try and prevent getting infected in the first place? why is this an important thing to get worked out? where do you land on it? to me, this is not a scientific question. this is a value judgment as in people like dr. offit and i m sure many americans would say, hey, as long as i don t get very sick or end up in the hospital from covid, i m fine and don t need a booster dose. there are plenty of other people, and i am in that second camp, saying i don t want to get covid at all. there s the potential for symptoms. if i get ill, i have young kids. i don t want to transmit it to them. and i don t want to be out of commission and unable to work and care for my children. a lot of us would want to get a booster for that reason. i do not think it s the role of the federal government and our federal health officials to be telling americans how we should value our lives and our ability to get ill or prevent sickness. the role of our federal government should be to say are
ultimately, americans no value judgment, do not put foreign policy front and center in elections. americans aren t thinking about what s happening tens of thousands of miles away in a country that they can t find on a map. ultimately, when it comes to the political calculation for this, you know, four months from now, this is going this is a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing politically. people who are going to decide the midterm election, moms, they re not going to be wringing their hands about what s happening or not happening in afghanistan. they re going to be wringing their hands about whether or not their kids are safe in school, whether or not the icu units in their local hospitals are overrun or are we stabilized and they re going to be voting on health care. i m a lot more concerned about democrats being able to pass
they ignored everyone who was warning them because they re the experts and now we ve seen the consequences. cornell, let s be frank here, to what liz cheney said at the top of this segment, huge effort under way to simply forget the role the trump administration played in legitimatizing and inviting in the taliban. because as the former president said, they too were sick of fighting. so, cornell, does biden deserve blame for the decision, blame for the debacle of the withdrawal? you know, that s a complicated question that in the end i don t think matters. in the end i m not making a value judgment. i m a political hack and, brian, i told you i m a political hack on your show before. does it matter to the american people? does it matter in the elections?
