Countdown for popular Northern Rivers ball begins

Premium Content Subscriber only Northern Rivers residents are celebrating as the beloved Richmond Valley Black and White Ball signals its grand return. After a successful three years, the event was postponed in 2020 due to coronavirus but ball organising group member Troy Freeburn said the event was back in 2021 due to popular demand. We are all excited about the return of the event this year, he said. The Ball honours the positive spirit of reconciliation here in the Richmond Valley, as well as celebrating local Aboriginal culture. Performances by Richmond Valley school kids will be held on the night as well as a performance from Australian Aboriginal country band The Donovan Band.

3 intersections causing 'serious concerns' in Casino

Premium Content Subscriber only Repeated requests to fix three dangerous intersections in the Casino CBD have gone unanswered for years, but Richmond Valley Council isn t giving up. The motion explained the community s serious concerns with traffic and pedestrian safety along Centre Street (Bruxner Highway) at the Richmond and Canterbury Street intersections, and request that roundabouts be provided at these two intersections, and a safer pedestrian crossing facility at the Centre/Barker Street intersection, as a matter of urgency . Richmond Valley Mayor Robert Mustow, on behalf of the council, has now written to Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis, Page MP Kevin Hogan and Regional Transport and Roads Minister Paul Toole.

$10M spruce up of major secondary road underway

News 19th Jan 2021 9:00 AM Premium Content Subscriber only The first patch of pavement on a three-year, $10 million upgrade of one of the region s major secondary transport routes, the Woodburn-Coraki Road, has begun. The initial round of works, scheduled to take seven days, involve resurfacing a 270m section at the Woodburn end of the road, between the Rocky Mouth Creek bridge and the start of the 100kmh zone. This will include removal of the current surface of the road and replacing it with a premium asphalt mix to ensure durability, longevity, and a smooth ride quality for motorists. General Manager Vaughan Macdonald said the Woodburn-Coraki Road was one of the area s most vital roads, and its upgrade had been a long-term council priority.
