UKRAINE In the context of the
Russian-Ukrainian standoff, the Romanian foreign ministry has raised the alert
level for Ukraine and advises Romanian citizens to avoid travelling to that
country. The foreign ministry firmly recommends avoiding travels to Crimea, to
the Donetsk and Luhansk regions and to Ukraine s borders with Russia and
Belarus. Romanian nationals currently in Ukraine are urged to notify their
presence to Romania s embassy or consular offices and to reconsider staying in
that country. The foreign ministry also calls on Romanian citizens, including
journalists, to avoid big crowds, to stay up to date with information from
reliable sources and to adjust their plans to the security situation there. A

Ukraine - The Romanian Foreign Ministry informs that the alert level for Ukraine has been raised, in the context of the latest security developments, and "strongly recommends" the Romanian citizens to avoid traveling to this country and to be very careful. The authorities also decided to withdraw non-essential diplomatic and consular staff from the diplomatic mission and some of the consular offices in Ukraine. All measures have been taken to "voluntarily" repatriate family members of diplomatic and consular staff, and the process is currently being completed in relation to the Kiev Embassy and Consulate General in Odessa. The Foreign Ministry strongly recommends avoiding travel to the Crimean Peninsula and eastern Ukraine, in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, as well as in the Ukrainian border area with the Russian Federation and Belarus, recalling that the security situation remains tense and fluid. More than a year after the start of the vaccination campaign, Romania has struggled to exceed the threshold of eight million fully vaccinated people, i.e. half of the eligible adult population. Of these, over 2.4 million have also had the booster dose. According to official data, the figure is similar to the number of people who have got infected since the onset of the pandemic in Romania almost two years ago. However, the health minister has recently said on a private television station that the real figure could be over ten million infected people.
The authorities warn that the vaccination pace is slow, and remind people that immunization primarily reduces the risk of death or hospitalization. On January 26, vaccination for the age group of 5-11 started in Romania as well. There are more than 300 vaccination offices that carry out such activities. So far, only a few thousand children have been vaccinated, even though official data show that there are a total of 1.2 milli
On Tuesday Romania exceeded 40,000 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours - the highest since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. The figure is more than double the peak figure of the previous autumn wave. Also, the highest number of tests in one single day was made - over 122,000, and one in three results confirmed the infection. The coordinator of the national Covid-19 vaccination campaign, doctor Valeriu Gheorghiţă, considers that, at present, the testing capacity is not comparable to that of other countries.
On a private television station, he said that although the testing capacity for SARS-CoV-2 has increased in Romania, not enough tests are being made yet. According to him, in order to have the real number of infections, six times more tests should be made. On the other hand, about 10,000 people diagnosed with Covid-19 are hospitalized in health facilities across the country, double the number reported two weeks ago. There are about one thousand patients in ICUs. Mo
