Facebook Accidentally Pulls Down Page Of French City It s All In The Name

Facebook Accidentally Pulls Down Page Of French City. It s All In The Name Facebook Accidentally Pulls Down Page Of French City. It s All In The Name Facebook admitted that the page was removed in error and reinstated it. Ville de Bitche is a town located in north-eastern France. What s in a name? Shakespeare famously asked. Quite a lot apparently, and a city in France learnt this the hard way. The residents of Bitche in northeastern France were taken aback when the city s Facebook page was deleted. The reason attributed to the action was that the page had violated the terms and conditions of the social media platform. This stumped the city, as they were quite sure that they had done nothing to warrant this move. Soon, they realised they only had the city s name to blame.

Hilariously its name is Bitche. Called Bitche in the Moselle, the town s official page was removed by the platform deeming it to be inappropriate and insulting. Obviously, the reason behind it was the name that was misconstrued as the popular swear word.  There was no explanation made by Facebook, much to the town residents being angry and baffled about why did it take place. It disappeared on March 19.

Facebook takes down official page for French town called Bitche

Island FM Facebook has been criticised after taking down the official page for the French town of Bitche. Local broadcaster Radio Melodie reported that the page was taken down, forcing the municipal communications officer to create a new one under another name. Ms Valerie Degouy said the new page was named after the town s post code, Mairie 57230, as reported by Politico. Ms Degouy said: I tried to reach out to Facebook in every possible way, through different forms, but there s nothing [I could] do, she said, adding she had already had issues when I first created the page . Another of the commune s towns, Rohrbach-les-Bitches, renamed its page Ville de Rohrbach out of caution.

Facebook removes French town s official page because of its offensive name

Facebook mistakenly took down the official page for a French town called Bitche, after its algorithms dubbed the name as offensive.  The official page for Bitche, a town in northeastern France near the border with Germany, was removed on March 19, but has only just been addressed by Facebook.  Facebook France said the mistake was made following an incorrect analysis on the part of our systems .  It has since apologised for the embarrassing error and restored the page.  Earlier this year, Facebook apologised for banning users from mentioning National Trust beauty spot Devil s Dyke near Brighton after branding it ‘hate speech .
