Government to setup upskilling fund for Debenhams workers

Government to setup upskilling fund for Debenhams workers A €3m upskilling fund is to be set up by government for ex Debenhams workers. It s part of recommendations proposed by chair of the Labour Court, Kevin Foley, following engagement with workers, KPMG and government. Roughly 1,000 Debenhams staff lost their jobs last April after its Irish operations collapsed. Former shop steward at Patrick Street store in Cork, Valerie Conlon, says the offer of the fund is disappointing: Yesterday we were 250 days on the pickets. We had a meeting last night with Kevin Foley, and the government are giving us three million to upskill.
