Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 2) As new COVID-19 cases continue to surge, hospitals in Metro Manila, the pandemic epicenter that remains under enhanced community quarantine, are quickly running out of beds for patients who require intensive care.
Data from the Department of Health as of March 31 showed 602 beds or 76% of the combined 792 in intensive care units for COVID-19 patients in the National Capital Region are occupied, putting hospitals in the region at “high risk” level. Medical facilities which have reached 70% to 80% occupancy rate fall under this risk category.
With several hospitals approaching breaking point, a major concern is where do people go for help?

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) lauded on Saturday, March 6, local government units (LGUs) of Metro Manila for what it described as an efficient roll-out and deployment of the vaccination program against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in their respective localities.

DILG officer-in-charge (OIC) Bernardo Florece Jr. said the efficient roll-out of COVID-19 vaccination has increased the demand for the doses among the medical frontliners.
“This is a good development. A few days since the vaccination program began, we have seen the significant increase in vaccine confidence among health care workers with some hospitals even running out of stocks,” Florece said.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 5) The Valenzuela City government has witnessed an increased public confidence in vaccines after more than 200 medical frontliners were inoculated against COVID-19, its mayor said on Friday.
Vaccine supply from the national government is expected to increase as Valenzuela City recorded a very good reception following the vaccination of 250 medical frontliners this week, Mayor Rex Gatchalian told CNN Philippines Newsroom Ngayon. It s a very good sign na yung mga medical frontliners natin ay getting themselves inoculated. Yung agam-agam ay nag-dissipate, he said.
