When Donald Trump spoke last year, the religious right was ascendant, Christian nationalists had a cheerleader in the White House, and the president used the occasion to gloat about the Senate s vote to reject his impeachment. In stark contrast, Feb. 4, President Joe Biden urged Americans this year to unite in a common purpose: to respect one another, and defeat political extremism, white supremacy and domestic terrorism.

Vigneron Feb. 9 announced the general dispensation from Sunday Mass for Catholics in the Archdiocese of Detroit will expire March 13. However, while the general dispensation which relieves all Catholics in the archdiocese from their moral obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days is expiring, the archbishop said he will continue to grant “particular dispensations” to those in need, including those who are at high risk of COVID-19.
