The arrival of the Vaka Paikea to Akatokomana, Mauke, is such a good example of where we can utilise the culture of today and culture of tomorrow and use both to advance ourselves into the challenges of the world, we now live in, writes Thomas Tarurongo Wynne.
After months of being on dry dock for intensive maintenance work and the recent renaming and blessing ceremony, Vaka Paikea was launched into the water on Thursday afternoon at Avatiu Harbour.
Cook Islands archaeologist and Pacific programmer at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, Ma’ara Maeva will be making a special presentation at the National Museum this afternoon from 12 noon to 2pm on “Paikea: Ancestral connections and stories woven in the stars”.
