Karnataka sets 24-hr deadline for Cipla, Jubilant to supply Remdesivir
The biggest vaccination drive is currently underway in India, but it s not without hurdles. Many states have reported shortage of vaccine doses after including people in 18-44 age group. As a direct consequence, people aged 45+ were unable to get their second dose. Now, the Karnataka government has decided that it will utilise the complete supply of vaccines provided by the centre for persons aged 45 and above to inoculate beneficiaries due for second dose.
This includes the vaccine stock procured for persons aged 18-44 years, which will be used to inoculate beneficiaries who are due for second dose. As a result, vaccination for 18-44 years has been temporarily suspended from May 14 until further orders.
Do not vaccinate pregnant, lactating mothers
Karnataka is all set to begin vaccination of people, in the 18 to 44 years age group, from Monday.
K. Sudhakar, the state s health and medical education minister, took to Twitter on Sunday, and shared plans to launch vaccination for this age group, in several government-run hospitals of the capital city.
In his tweet, the minister said that place will be earmarked for people of the age group at the vaccine centres Vaccine will be administered only to persons who book their slots on Arogyasetu or Cowin apps and obtain confirmed slots.
Vaccine shortages had forced the Karnataka government to symbolically launch this vaccination drive, recently.

The Central government on Monday, April 19 made an announcement to make the Covid-19 vaccination open for all above 18 years. The liberalized and accelerated phase 3 of Covid-19 vaccination will start on May 1, 2021. States have also been empowered to procure additional vaccine doses directly from manufactures.
