continue to be. don t they feel like because if the base wanted something else, wouldn t they change what they re no. well, i mean, a lot of em are afraid. they just want to get re-election, they want power. but if you are saying to me that, because of their actions in the united states house on january 6th, that that you know, in terms of that commission, that, therefore, they represent the party. they don t represent me and they don t represent a lot of republicans. and remember, don, the party s shrinking. people are leaving the party, in droves. because they don t approve of this. yeah. so we got to see where how this plays out. still, listen. they want power. i mean, that s obviously, you know that s no better, right? it s actually worse. but listen. there is so much to talk about. but i want to get i want to move on because we could talk about that part of it, all all night. sure. at cpac, too, we heard cheers over the country missing the vaccinatio
of these folks and i will continue if the base wanted something else, wouldn t they change what their no. well, i mean, a lot of them are afraid. they just want to get reelection and power but if you re saying to me because of their actions in the united states house on january 6th, you know, in terms of that commission that therefore they represent the party. they don t represent me and a lot of republicans and remember, don, the party is shrinking. people are leaving the party in droves pause they don t approve of this. we have to see how this plays out. listen, they want power. obviously, you know that s no better, right? . yeah. it s actually worse. there is so much to talk about but i want to move on because we can talk about that all night. sure. we heard cheers over the country missing the vaccination goal. it really terrifying to think about the implications of that especially with a very contagious delta variant spreading.
missing its vaccination goal. what do you think about that? what i think is this virus does not care where you live. it doesn t care who you voted for. it doesn t care what color your state is on any kind of political map. it is still out there. it is still circulating. you can get infected if you re not vaccinated and it can kill you. so i think people should take a step back, look at the bigger picture and see what we re trying to achieve here which is to prevent human suffering and go back to the society that we used to have around 2019. yeah. we all want to be back to normal. dr. stephen thomas, thank you. cnn s so you just heard that moment from cpac. cnn s donie o sullivan was there this weekend. and he joins us now live from dallas. donie, what did you see? reporter: hey, john. yeah, it was very much the trump show here in town this weekend. we spoke to a lot of people,
[ cheering and applause ] that cut off a little bit early but there were loud cheers after and it was former president trump who kept claiming and correctly so some credit for the vaccine, i remember when he said remember it is the trump administration that produced the vaccine in less than nine months. what does it tell you that there is cheering to missing a vaccination goal? well, i think it is unfortunate. i certainly look, when frank lunts was on talking to jake tapper, he talked about the fact that people were they didn t want to be bullied into getting a vaccination and the goal is for all of us to be able to get vaccinated and there is some mistrust. and unfortunately cpac actually fed into that bullying. what they re saying is that the united states, the government,
happening. right? there s a younger people we ve got republican governors across this country pretending they didn t shut down their states. that they didn t close their beaches. that they didn t mandate masks. that they didn t issue shelter many places. i m not picking fights with republican governors. i m saying we need leaders with grit. grit? now, those dangerous ideas were at the center of this conference that is essential to determining the gop agenda. here to discuss this former ohio governor and cnn senior political commentator john kasich. ripping republican governors for trying to save lives and cheers for the u.s. not meeting the vaccination goal? people are dying because of this. i thought conservatives were pro-life. well, look, the big message out of this, and all our points are very true, well-taken. the biggest message out of this is they re cheering for the negative stuff.
