more expensive than the meal in many ways. kimberly: no. greg: very hard to open. peter: los angeles, there is a big homeless that s a problem, in los angeles. the va and brentwood in l.a., providing ten parking spots overnight for homeless vets to park their car and have somewhere to sleep. there are 400 acres of property at the facility. it took ten years to get ten parking spots so homeless vets who have run into hard times have somewhere to sleep at night. it s an example of how the inhumane va system treats people, not like humans. in this case they finally got it right a little bit. kimberly: i work with operation renewed hope for homeless veterans and you cannot believe how many veterans sleep in their cars. it s all they have left. they lose everything in life. you know who lets them stay in
there are over 1,000 facilities across this country. and yeah, it is a big job. there are a lot of mayors of mid-sized cities with fewer constituents than the va does employees and there is a lot going on and debate over privatization. and veterans, look, we are, you know, in chorus opposing those efforts to see our va health care system privatized. what we want to see, though, is a va system that s strong, fully funded, that s fully staffed and that is equipped through infrastructure investment to make sure that we all have access to the health care we earned. the republicans taken aback by dr. jackson s nomination. do you think he s going to have a difficult time at confirmation hearing? he very well could have a difficult time. something that you will start hearing from white house officials and top trump allies on the outside very soon about jackson is contention that if you look at the bureaucratic
privatization, they were obviously in conflict. i think the president has a mandate, based on what you did during the election, to actually push for this. just asking to make sure that our veterans are taking care of, being able to get to a doctor that they need is one of those things because the current system is not working. sandra: want, he seemed to hint in that speech he gave in ohio as to why he decided to let shulkin go. he said i wasn t happy with the speed with which our veterans were taken care of. i don t understand that statement. if you look veterans, they are generally pleased with the va system. we ve had general complaints about the waiting time and the like. as shulkin said, there is more to be done. i think the argument comes down to the privatization argument. here is where shulkin made the
to get you out of it. you need an outsider to do it. it s unfair to lump dr. ronny jackson in with some of the more inexperienced cabinet picks because he is a lifelong military doctor, a rear admiral equivalent to a one or two star. you don t rise within the pentagon ranks and not know how to manage people by the time you re at that level of promotion. there s a lot that could be gained by having a military doctor run the va just because the regular military health care system isn t synced with the va system necessarily. a lot the more exploratory treatments pioneered on the military side such as to combat ptsd aren t necessarily available to veteran. i think this is dr. jackson is someone who is trusted by president bush, president obama and clearly president trump and i think it s an exciting picking. > other news today on the personnel front, the president saying good-bye to one of his longest serving aides and someone who was one of his
washington, d.c. veterans affairs hospital where it was found unsterile conditions. in the wake of this report, the va secretary david shulkin announced he was firing three regional heads of the va who had been responsible for va medical centers in arizona, washington, d.c. and west virginia where some of the most agregious incidents have occurred. this report has identified unacceptable findings. completely of great concern to all of us in leadership. we ve taken this report very seriously. this to me represents a failure of the va system at every level. reporter: he has been under fire for accepting wimbeldon tickets and flying his wife to london for taxpayer money for which he apologized and reimbursed the treasury.
