A judge says the central bank officials responsible for overseeing the financial institutions “took benefits” from the scam centring businessman Proshanto Kumar Halder.
Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar made the comments on Tuesday while hearing statements of some of those who defaulted on more than Tk 500,000 loans from PLFSL.
“The Bangladesh Bank officials in charge of overseeing the financial institutions sat there and took [benefits]. These corrupt officials took facilities from PK Halder and the loan defaulters,” the judge said.

The chairman of a non-banking financial institution, central bank officials, and an audit firm are giving different statements about a scam involving Tk 6.5 crore.
Uzzal Kumar Nandi, chairman of People s Leasing and Financial Services (PLFS), told a magistrate last week that certain Bangladesh Bank officials took the money in bribes between 2009 and 2015. To bury [other] misdeeds in the PLFS, a deputy governor, a general manager, and others of the central bank were given about Tk 6.5 crore between 2009 and 2015, he said.

Proshanta Kumar Halder alias PK Halder had played tricks on four non-bank financial institutions in such a way that no one could suspect anything before around Tk 10,000 crore were siphoned from those.
Halder put his men at the helm of the financial institutions so that he could easily take loans from those and misappropriate the funds.
This was stated in a confessional statement by Uzzal Kumar Nandi, chairman of People s Leasing and Financial Services (PLFS), one of the four financial institutions defrauded by Halder.

The Bangladesh Bank yesterday withdrew its executive director Shah Alam from the responsibility of monitoring two departments for his alleged connection with scammer PK Halder.
Shah Alam was discharged of his duties at the central bank s Department of Financial Institutions and Markets (DFIM) and the Department of Banking Inspection 2.
The high-ups of the BB took the decision after Rashedul Haque, a close associate of PK Hader, confessed to a Dhaka court that two high officials of the BB had assisted them to conduct the financial scams.

Rashedul Haque, a close associate of PK Hader, today confessed to a Dhaka court that he disbursed crores of taka, including Tk 70.82 crore, as loan to the non-existing Anan Chemical Ltd as per Halder s directive.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah recorded confessional statement of Rashedul Haque, former managing director of International Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ILFSL), after Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan, also investigation officer of the case, brought him at his chamber.
After recording the statement, the magistrate ordered to send him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj, an official of the ACC confirmed to The Daily Star.
