Govt Addresses Reports of Mass Firings in Kazi Mtaani Program

Govt Addresses Reports of Mass Firings in Kazi Mtaani Program 13 February 2021 - 9:38 am Government Spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna during a community engagement forum in Kaptembwa, Nakuru County on February 12, 2021. Twitter Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna has responded to claims that the government would discontinue the Kazi Mtaani initiative that would lead to thousands of youth under the program losing their jobs. Oguna on Friday, February 12, released a statement following reporting by a local media house quoting the official directing youth to leave the programme as the government had no money to sustain it. The alleged statement which the spokesperson has come out to refute elicited backlash from a number of Kenyans online who faulted the government for being detached from the situation for many Kenyans in the grassroots.

Youth urged to show up for idle funds

THE STANDARD MONEY & CAREERS NAKURU, KENYA: The government has urged the youth to take up special funds with various agencies in a bid to support efforts to resuscitate the economy. Officials from the Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) decried low uptake of the funds despite government efforts to sensitise the youth on the availability of the finances on loan terms. Speaking to the press, Nakuru County YEDF officer Joshua Mureithi revealed that the local youth barely utilises half of the funds allocated to them annually. This financial year, for example, Nakuru County received Sh70 million for loans to youth under YEDF. Seven months down the line only Sh15 million has been applied for and disbursed, said Mureithi.

How the youth can step up for a better future of our nation

THE STANDARD By Nadia Abdalla | December 23rd 2020 at 00:00:00 GMT +0300 Undoubtedly, Joseph Tom Mboya remains one of the most admirable young founding fathers of our great nation. He reaffirmed to us that young people have the potential to make change, and one of his famous quotes that lingers in my mind every time I think about change by the Kenyan youth has been: “I have news for you, there is no superman (it’s up to us.)”. At 30, I cannot agree more with young Mboya’s sentiments from six decades ago. As a youth, I bear in mind that there are many struggles young people undergo and in reference to the young Mboya’s words of wisdom, truly, it’s up to us to stand for the change we want.
