After the harrowing wait of 17 days, 41 workers have been rescued safely from the Uttarkashi Tunnel which collapsed on Nov. 12. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and workers families comforted them.
Arnold Dix, an international tunnel expert from Australia, was roped in by India for the safe evacuation of 41 workers who were trapped after a portion of the Silkyara tunnel collapsed in Uttarkashi.
Two days since the auger machine broke down, a plasma cutter has been flown in from Hyderabad to remove parts of the machine stuck inside the escape tunnel. The drilling has been on a stall since Friday after the machine broke down.
Authorities have provided trapped workers with hot meals and oxygen through separate pipes as they continue to be stranded in a collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
The rescue efforts at the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi will continue into the 13th day as a technical snag on Thursday night delayed the last leg of the mission. Drilling operations were halted after cracks were identified in the platforms supporting the Auger drilling machine.
