Image Source: IANS News Prayagraj, Feb 4 : The Allahabad High Court on Thursday rejected the schedule proposed by the Uttar Pradesh s State Election Commission (SEC) for holding panchayat elections in the state. The SEC had sought to hold panchayat polls in May, but the court ruled it out, observing that the panchayat elections should have concluded by January 13, 2021 as per the rules. The SEC, in its submission before the high court, said that the voter list for panchayat polls had been prepared by January 22, however, the work on the reservation of seats by the state government is yet to be finalised which has delayed the process of holding elections.

Image Source: IANS News Lucknow, Dec 27 : The Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj department has appointed administrators in all the 58,656 village Panchayats in the state after expiry of the five-year term of the village pradhans. The Assistant Development Officers (ADO) have been made the administrators in all the Panchayats while the government has removed the digital signatures of the village pradhans from the portal of the e-gram swaraj to prevent any fraud. The elections could not be held prior to the expiry of the Panchayat term due to the pandemic.

Image Source: IANS News Lucknow, Dec 23 : Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary has said the notification regarding the Panchayat elections will be issued after the completion of preparatory work for the polls which was already underway. Talking to reporters, he said the Gram Sabhas have been recast and a notification will be issued after delimitation and reservation, adding that the Panchayat elections will be done by the end of March. He informed that the constitutional system will come into force before the term of the Panchayat ends later this month.
