Cougar sighting in Utah County © Provided by KUTV Salt Lake City A mountain lion was spotted in Mapleton in Utah County Wednesday, and police want the public to be aware. Yesterday evening, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources called the Mapleton Police Department to report the sighting, which was near the gate at the mouth of Maple Canyon. In a Facebook post, Mapleton police said: We just want residents that live and recreate in the canyon to be aware there was a sighting. DWR explains what to do if you meet an aggressive cougar: Do not run from a cougar. Running will provoke an instinctive prey response and the cougar may pursue you.
