Taking the Main Stage: The Twilight Concert Series Returns • Salt Lake Magazine

The Twilight Concert Series was one of many event casualties that fell to the pandemic in 2020. Now that about 29% of eligible Utahns are fully vaccinated for COVID, more mainstay summer events are sidestepping the uncertainty of early 2021 and staging their comeback tours.  Kicking off Aug. 19 at the Gallivan Center with performances by Big Boi of Outkast fame, local outfit Laserfang and the ambitiously named Portland indie rock group STRFKR this year’s Twilight Concert Series is taking the stage a little deeper into summer than previous years, with some dates edging into fall. The delay is likely just one of the precautions to ensure the event isn’t an encore of the pandemic at its height. Organizers promise to “maintain health and safety protocols related to COVID-19 and carefully monitor CDC guidelines throughout the course of the program” whatever those recommendations may look like come mid-August.

AM News Brief: Returning Events, Bad Drivers & A Flight Disruption

Published March 16, 2021 at 9:03 AM MDT Listen • 5:02 / Traffic fatalities in Utah increased last year, even though the number of cars on the road declined. This story and more in the Tuesday morning news brief. Tuesday morning, March 16, 2021 State Unsafe Driving Went Up in 2020 Traffic fatalities in Utah increased last year, even though the number of cars on the road declined. Because of that, Utah’s Department of Transportation is launching a new campaign aimed at improving drivers’ behaviors. UDOT’s Carlos Braceras said research shows Utahns believe they care more about safety than other drivers on the road do, but that’s a Catch-22. “It can lead them to do unsafe things, to basically telling themselves that one small lie, that it will be OK for me to do this because I m safer than anyone else on the roadways,” Braceras said. The campaign will focus on reducing distracted, aggressive and impaired driving. The number of citations

The Return of Mainstay Summer Events • Salt Lake Magazine

More than a year after the pandemic shut down normal life, we’re all pulling back our window curtains and searching for any signs of hope on the horizon. There are now three available COVID-19 vaccines with emergency-use authorization from the FDA. While the CDC has put out cautious guidelines for the fully vaccinated, governors are lifting dining restrictions in states like Texas and Arizona, and Utah’s statewide mask mandate is set to expire April 10.  The (tentative) return of some of the state’s most popular summertime events gives us something to look forward to, even if they will look a little different this year. The only groups more excited than the general public for 2021 summer events might be the artists and performers.
