The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has launched an action plan to reduce the pendency of cases, especially cases that have been pending for more than five years, before district courts.
The guidelines were framed in line with the Supreme Court's directives in the case of Md. Asfak Alam v. State of Jharkhand, in which the top court had called for authorities to refrain from making unnecessary arrests.
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Saturday started taking up cases from the Union Territory of Ladakh by way of virtual hearing thereby, allowing litigants and lawyers to appear and plead their cases from Ladakh.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, the minister said that the project encompasses spatial database generation (water resources, vegetation and energy potential) using remote sensing, geospatial techniques and the development of a geo-portal for hosting this database.
The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh recently refused to entertain a public interest litigation seeking directions to declare Hindi as official language in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
