After an eight-and-a-half-month deployment that included operations in Europe and Africa, the USS George H.W. Bush is returning to Naval Station Norfolk on Sunday.
The ship will join other U.S. military assets sent to respond to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Monday including Urban Search and Rescue teams, C-17 cargo jets, and helicopters to aid in search and rescue efforts.
The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush recently sailed alongside the Italian navy’s Amerigo Vespucci, a historic reenactment some six decades in the making.
